How many moles are there in 5 grams_ of sulfur trioxide gas?

How many grams of carbon dioxide, are made burning two moles of methane?

How many grams of boron trifluoride, are made using two moles of fluorine?

The answer my friends is stoichiometry; the answer is stoichiometry.

How many bonds does a water molecule have?

How many lone electrons?

Yes, how many bonds does ammonia gas have?

And how many lone electrons?

And how many bonds does oxygen gas have?

How many lone electrons?

The answer my friends is VSEPR… the answer is VSEPR

How many moles of hexane can dissolve in 2 liters of methanol?

How many grams of cesium hydroxide can be dissolved in the water?

How many moles of chlorophyll can dissolve in 5 liters of ethanol?

The answer my friends is solubility, the answer is solubility

Original Words and Music by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II Chemistry
lyrics by Phuong Vo

Balloons with hydrogen burst into big flames
Exothermic reactions and titrations
Pink solutions turned into purple goo!
These are a few of my favorite things!
Copper ring make blue solutions and green fire
Iodine and starch turn all things into black
Chain reactions that prove mass conservation
These are a few of my favorite things!
Nitrogen cycles and mole calculations,
Rate laws and stoichiometric equations,
Protons, neutrons and electronic clouds
These are a few of my favorite things!
When the flask breaks, when the lab fails
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
and then I don’t feel so bad
Transfers of protons in acids and bases,
buffers that stop changing colors in acids ,
titration of weak acid and strong bases
These are a few of my favorite things!
% of Copper yield from six reactions breaking sugar into water and carbon
Making hydrogen from zinc and acids
These are a few of my favorite things!
Students with goggles performing reactions
Making observations and draw conclusions
Analyzing errors that went haywire!
These are a few of my favorite things!
When the flask breaks, when the lab fails
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so bad

Lyrics by Ms. Vo , sung to the tune of Jim Henson’s song “I’d Like to Visit The Moon”

Singer: Ms Vo (Phuong Vo)

Well, I’d like to prepare some salts In a test tube and under fume hood

Yes, I’d like to prepare some salts

But I don’t think I’d like to eat them

Though I’d like to look down at the salts from outside

They might have some toxic polyatomic ions

So although I might like to do chemistry

I don’t want to eat them with fries

I’d like to make calcium carbonate

They are found in my bone and my teeth

Yes, I’d like to make carbonates

They can form beautiful minerals

I might keep them a few days if I had my wish

But there’s not much to do once they form a solid

And transition ions make better colors

So I don’t want to keep them too long.

I’d like to prepare nitrate salts, hear them explode

Make some sulfates and some acetate

There’s ammonium salts I’d like to have

But none of them with my French fries

So I should prepare some salts

Well, I’ll choose atomic ions well

I will make them look colorful

And I’ll keep them around for a while

Though I’d like to look down at the salts from outside

They might have some toxic polyatomic ions

So although I might like to do chemistry

I don’t want to eat all those salts

No, I don’t want to eat them at all.
